Resumo:

In the evolving field of cytopathology, innovation is essential for improving diagnostic efficiency, accuracy, and sustainability. Traditional staining techniques, though reliable, often involve high costs, extended processing times, and environmental concerns. This study presents BlueStain®, a novel single-reagent stain developed to address these issues while maintaining diagnostic quality. BlueStain® was assessed through a structured evaluation process to verify its scientific validity, analytical, and clinical performance. It was compared with established cytological stains such as Papanicolaou, Diff-Quik, and Giemsa across various sample types, including thyroid fine needle aspirations, serous effusions, and cervical smears. Results showed that BlueStain® provided clear, high-quality slides suitable for accurate diagnostic interpretation, particularly in rapid on-site evaluations. Beyond diagnostic performance, BlueStain® offers environmental and economic benefits due to its single-reagent format, which reduces hazardous waste and lowers costs associated with multi-step staining procedures. In conclusion, BlueStain® emerges as a viable alternative to conventional staining methods, offering a balanced approach to diagnostic quality, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability. Further clinical validation and expansion into other areas of cytopathology and histopathology are recommended.
