The Higher Professional Technical Course in Clinical Secretariat intends to train professionals to plan, execute and manage secretarial activities in health institutions of different types and areas of intervention.

The current context of the health sector requires, from the professionals who work in it, the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes capable of responding to the need to change the paradigm of their care delivery model, conditioned by several factors of which stands out the aging of population, the greater preference of the “good” health in relation to other goods and the socioeconomic and cultural factors. As a result of this change, the challenges facing all professionals today, in the different areas, are immense, putting a greater challenge on their professional practice. Clinical secretaries play a fundamental role in the image of the institution they represent, as it is with this professional that the client establishes the first contact. They are required, in addition to administrative skills, also to others related to management, information technology, health literacy and health legislation, based on a code of conduct and data protection.

The main activities of the Higher Professional Technician in Clinical Secretariat are:

- To collaborate in the provision of quality services contributing to the continuous improvement of the organization;

- To propose and implement measures aimed to improve service and secretarial work, taking into account quality standards and best practices;

- To plan the execution, independently, of secretarial activities in health institutions of different types and areas of intervention;

- To register clinical and other data on the requisition platforms, registration, referencing and health protocols;

- To provide to the client and to the multiprofessional team, a responsible and assertive collaboration, adapted to the person's health condition, context and service;

- To develop clinical secretariat activities in order to guarantee a fast, professional, careful and personalized service to the person's health condition;

- To provide a reasoned updated, actualized, explicit and adapted to the person's health condition;

- To ensure good documentary, information and stock management considering the characteristics of the service and ensuring data confidentiality;

- To plan and collaborate in the organization of the space as well as in the implementation and maintenance of a functional, confidential and practical document file;

- To participate in the elaboration of facilitating and functional protocols and procedures adapted and personalized, taking into account the service, the institution and the customers.

NOTE: The CTSP in Clinical Secretariat is authorized for ESSVA facilities (Vila Nova de Famalicão).

As long as the minimum conditions are reunited, a class will work at the ESSVS facilities (Gandra - Paredes).

Access requirements

In accordance with Article 40 E of DL no. 63/2016 of 13 September, the HPTC courses taught at IPSN are open to: a. Those who have completed secondary education or legal equivalent; b. Those who pass special exams to evaluate capacity to attend higher education for those over 23 years old, held, for the course in question, in accordance with the terms of DL no. 64/2006, of 21 March, altered by DL no. 113/2014, of 16 July and DL no. 63/2016 of 13 September. The HPTC is also open to applicants who hold a technological specialization diploma, a higher professional technician diploma or a higher education degree.

 

Type of Recognition

The Higher Professional Technician in Clinical Secretariat is qualified for interdisciplinary work in the health area. During training, the student develops a set of skills and competences in clinical secretariat, in communication, in the use of information systems specific to clinical contexts that allows him to perform functions in different health institutions, at the level of primary or differentiated health care, public or private, namely, health centers / family health units, hospitals, palliative care units, long-term care units, health clinics, homes, social centers, among others.
