Resumo da apresentação:

Nowadays, clinicians and scientists deal with technological limitations on developing materials for several fields in dentistry such as orthodontics, prosthodontics, restorative dentistry, and implantology. Ongoing scientific projects currently focuses on producing novel dental biomaterials composed by 3D-laser printing and conventional methods to achieve high biocompatibility, enhanced degradation resistance, high strength, and antibiofilm performance. Thus, clinical issues on different situations can be addressed by enhanced materials for restorative dentistry, orthodontics, prosthodontics, implantology, and bucomaxillofacial surgery. Such ongoing projects involve a multisciplinary team linked to American (NIH-R03AR064005), Brazilian (PVE-CNPq 400254/2014-0) and European (NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000018-HAMaBICo) projects on development of advanced materials. In Portugal, scientific activities related to those projects are mostly performed at the laboratories associated with the Center for MicroElectroMechanical Systems (CMEMS) at the University of Minho. CMEMS project members include senior researchers, national and international distinguished collaborators, post-doctoral investigators, PhD and MSc students, as well industrial partners. That strategic academic network can result in a significant improvement on the clinical performance of dental materials to decrease the failure rates by adverse physicochemical interactions in the oral cavity.
