About the program/cycle of studies

The Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry is designed to provide students with thorough knowledge of biological molecules, such as the proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids which make up the cellular morphological structures and their organelles, and enable processes such as the inheritance of biological information, gene expression, energy metabolism and its regulation, and the differentiation and renewal of the cells. This type of study, which explores life at the cellular and molecular levels, continually brings about remarkable advances in science and has led to the development of various biotechnological techniques with applications in fields as diverse as medicine, the food and pharmaceutical industries, environmental bioremediation, biotechnology applied to agriculture and veterinary medicine, biosecurity, a range of laboratory tests, forensics, and other fields with great potential in the global economy. Being connected to the basic principles of life, the goal of this training is ubiquitous; therefore, students quickly initiate collaborations with professionals from other fields and work as valuable elements in multidisciplinary teams.

 

Academic Degree

Course accredited by A3ES on 04-09-2014 for 5 years - ACEF process (with previous accreditation on 02-03-2011/CEF); University Education - 1st cycle of studies leading to a Bachelor's degree.

 

Entry requirements

International applicants for admission and enrolment in the Bachelor's degree and Integrated Masters, must:

  • hold a qualification granting them access to higher education, such as a diploma or certificate issued by a competent authority which attests to the successful completion of an educational program and authorises them to apply for and enrol in higher education in the country where it was conferred; or
  • hold a secondary education degree legally equivalent to the Portuguese secondary education.

Under the regulations for international students, candidates must take an exam at CESPU. (Decree-Law no. 36/2014)
