About the program/cycle of studies

The  Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology is structured according to the Bologna accords and has a duration of 4 academic years (8 semesters), corresponding to a total of 240 ECTS, in accordance with the dispatch of 15 May 2009 of the General Directorate of Higher Education (DGES).

The plan of studies of the Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology, in conformity with notification nº 9361/2012 of 02 July, published in the 2ª series of the Diário da República nº 131 of 09 July and administered at the SUP School, is organized to convey the following competencies: applying the methods and techniques underlying a range of radiologic exams, using the appropriate equipment; processing and evaluating the images obtained, always taking into consideration available clinical information; preparing and positioning and monitoring patients during exams; helping patients, in order to minimize their anxiety and, as often as possible, informing them of the motive behind the exam in order to build a climate of trust; programming and implementing the necessary procedures for explaining the clinical situation to the patients and, occasionally, drawing up a preliminary report of the examination; participating not only in diagnosis but in treatment, prevention and health promotion; maintaining the highest possible level of security in the use of radiation in order to ensure one’s own protection and that of patients; knowing how to use the full gamut of software implemented in all equipment and, in some cases, helping to elaborate said programs; being able to work efficiently as part of a team in close collaboration with other healthcare professionals to develop research, management and teaching activities.

Academic Degree

University education Bachelor's Degree 1st cycle of studies leading to a Bachelor's degree ISCED Level 5.

 

Type of recognition

The holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Radiology can work as a radiology technician in accordance with Decree-Law nº 320 of 11 August 1999 and nº 564 of 21 December 1999 as a professional of diagnostic and therapeutic radiology.

 

Entry requirements

International applicants for admission and enrolment in the Bachelor's degree and Integrated Masters must:

  • hold a qualification granting them access to higher education, such as a diploma or certificate issued by a competent authority which attests to the  successful completion of an  educational program and  authorises them to  apply for and  enrol in higher education in the country where it was conferred; or
  • hold a secondary education degree legally equivalent to the Portuguese secondary education.

Under the regulations for international students, candidates must take an exam at CESPU.
